Oakton

Sage House Counseling and Art Therapy is one of the top group mental health practices in Northern Virginia. Many of our clients come from Oakton, Virginia for individual and family therapy. Our highly trained and experienced clinicians provide counseling as well as art therapy, play therapy, and sand tray therapy, which can help unblock growth areas that talk therapy alone may not reach. At Sage House, we see more breakthroughs when adult therapy clients use art therapy and sand tray in their sessions than when using talk therapy alone.

We offer family therapy, individual therapy, and group therapy to those in the Oakton, VA area. We serve children and adults in our space which is both professional and serene whether you are an adult client unwinding before or after seeing their therapist or a parent waiting for a child who is in session.

Sage House Counseling and Art Therapy is nearby to Oakton and our office is within walking distance to Metro’s Silver Line at the Wiehle-Reston Metro Station. Our facilities have ample free parking, but clients may also take advantage of the nearby W&O trail and public transportation options which are steps away. The Reston Bus System connects riders to Reston Town Center while Fairfax County’s Connector bus and Metrobus shuttle riders between Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station and destinations throughout Fairfax County.

Oakton Therapy Services

Sage House is here to support you and your family. We know the majority of households in Oakton are families with children. In fact, families with children make up 69% of the population in Oakton! Sage House is here to support all your child therapy, adolescent therapy, and teen therapy needs. We partner with parents to gain a better understanding of what their child is struggling with as well as how they can support their child outside of therapy sessions. Our clinicians, whose expertise is in child and family therapies, will begin by meeting with you and your child or teen to better understand the concern. Weekly therapy is typically recommended for the first 5-6 sessions, allowing your clinician to create a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan. We involved parents throughout the process and offer parent meetings as well as family sessions in order to help support their loved ones.

Our practice also supports new and expecting mothers (and their partners!) Our clinicians are specially trained in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders through Perinatal Support International (PSI). Sage House will match you to the postpartum therapist and perinatal therapist best suited to support your needs. Moreover, we offer a perinatal support group, a women’s circle, parental coaching for wellness and support. We also understand that parenthood as well as complications from pregnancy, such as the need for bed rest can make coming into the office for therapy sessions challenging. For this reason, we offer all of our client’s online therapy. Our online system is secure, private, and HIPAA-compliant so you can experience the benefits of therapy from the comfort of your home.

If you are looking for a hospital to give birth or for your family’s medical needs, the highest patient-rated hospital in the area is Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. It receives the most positive patient marks for the overall rating and hospital recommendations, pain management, cleanliness, and doctors’ and nurses’ communication. For more local options, you can consider Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Falls Church or Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fair Oaks.

Once discharged from the hospital, your baby (and you!) may want to explore nearby Fairfax libraries which are part of the Fairfax County Library System with 23 branches. The library system offers events on a rotating basis including music, story-time, and gymnastics activities.

Oakton Counseling and Art Therapy

At Sage House, we approach to therapy in a holistic and creative way. Our practice provides Art Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and Play Therapy in addition to traditional talk therapy. Art therapy is particularly helpful for children whose vocabulary and self-understanding may still be developing. But art therapy isn’t just for kids; the most thoughtful and articulate adults find art therapy beneficial when included in their individual therapy appointments. We use art therapy because it helps access parts of ourselves that can be more easily revealed on paper, sand tray, or canvas.

We encourage self-care and enjoying the small pleasures in life whether your session is onsite or you have a secure online therapy video session. We provide complimentary hot tea, coffee, and healthy snacks for clients at the Sage House office. There are two bathrooms available and if you are a new parent we welcome your newborn in the session if child care is not available or possible.

In addition to families and individuals, Sage House works with businesses via onsite corporate events. We focus on team building, group dynamics, and renewal & wellness. Whether your team needs a breather after a “busy season” or is just looking to reset its collective energy, Sage House can help. We will develop and customize a 2-hour session for your team, providing all art supplies and materials. Click here for more information on our corporate services.
