Art Improves Retention Rates
One of the biggest challenges for many employers is employee retention. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employee retention has decreased from an average of 5.5 years in 2014 to 5.1 years in 2018. This is just slightly above the 30-year low 4.9 years of tenure and indicates individuals may change to potentially better jobs as the economy has strengthened. These findings matter because the typical employee takes over 6-months to reach a breakeven point for their employer. As such, it is more important than ever to not only provide employees with a working environment that allows for growth and learning, but also one that values enjoyment, loyalty and the desire to grow with the company or organization. Retention rates and employee satisfaction are not only important, but in fact essential to the success of a business. Companies able to extend employee retention between four to ten years rather than experiencing turnover every one to two years will save thousands of dollars on lost productivity during job vacancy & new hire ramping, organizational knowledge loss, and recruiting costs that could otherwise be reinvested for growth.
Art Increases Innovation
One of the greatest strengths people bring to their jobs is the ability to think creatively and make innovative ideas come to life. In turn, creative thinking often leads to innovations that allow for better, faster, simpler solutions saving employers money, time and resources. Most Fortune 500 companies have gained their recognition and success through the innovation of their employees. Companies can no longer rely on one new great idea, but instead, need to continue to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing world. The ability to “think outside the box” has always been recognized as a great asset and today we know this is most true than ever before in increasingly competitive markets. The trick is figuring out just how to stimulate those out of the box ideas. Oftentimes it is when a person is engaged in an enjoyable creative process, unrelated to the problem at hand, that he or she is able to draw a connection between two seemingly unrelated things. When this happens what you get is innovation!
As humans, our brains look for novel experiences and try to make sense of them based on our previous experiences. This is how out-of-the box thinking works. Through art making we lay the groundwork for employees to engage in a creative process that allows for novel exploration and challenge. During the process, parts of the brain that are not normally active get to take a front seat in the thinking and problem-solving process. This results in solutions that may not have been considered or novel ways of completing existing tasks that reduce costs or create greater customer satisfaction.
Art Brings Lasting Change
Sage House brings an immersive art experience to your office. Whether it is a large corporate retreat or an intimate focus group, we partner with you to understand the desired outcomes and create a tailored approach to meet those goals. We also work to make sure the new ways of thinking, team cohesion and connections built during the workshop remain long after the workshop is completed. An experience is only as useful as the lasting impacts and positive changes it is able to set and keep in motion. Our extensive knowledge and training in psychology, group dynamics and group facilitation as well as art therapy allow us to expertly guide a meaningful experience. We use purposeful art directives to stimulate creative thought and discussion allowing for lasting change and tools employees will continue to use to maintain collaboration, innovation and creative approaches.
We care deeply about the needs of our community and strive to advocate for those needs through our services, resources, and partnerships.
We’re not perfect. And neither are you. And that’s okay. We celebrate what your version of wellbeing looks like instead of fitting you into a predetermined box.
