Parent Coaching

Every Parent Needs Support

At Sage House therapy we know raising kids while balancing your own adult life can be challenging. Being a parent may even feel overwhelming, impossible, or just plain joyless at times, especially when you lack a supportive community. We are here to be your village, support your family, and bring enjoyment and peace back to the wild ride that is parenthood.

Our experienced and knowledgeable clinicians, many of whom are parents, seek to provide you with support, recommendations, and resources tailored to your family’s needs.

“Parenthood is easy!”- said no parent ever

We view you as the expert on your child and family. Throughout our work we will be looking to partner with you to better understand what you see is working and what is not. Our clinicians will compassionately listen to your concerns and offer the latest techniques in parenting and strategies for success. We also provide resources, workshops, and additional supports outside of the parental coaching sessions to give you all the tools you need and connect and learn from other parents. Through coaching and workshops parents realize many other parents are also struggling with the same challenges. Parents also feel more confident and supported as they work with our team to create lasting change within themselves and their families.

Let Us Be Your Village

We know having a family is not always easy and no one can do it alone. As the saying goes, it really does take a village! Our practice is welcoming of all families. This includes, but is not limited to same gender, non-binary and/or transgender parents, single parents, divorced parents, grandparents who are the primary caregivers, and foster parents. We work with all kinds of families. We are knowledgeable about the unique strengths, attributes, and challenges within each family structure.

How Individual Parental Coaching Works

Our Individual Parent Coaching program begins with a meeting with one of our child and family therapy clinicians. Together, we will gather essential information about areas of concern as well as areas in which parenting is going well. By collectively building a comprehensive understanding of the family challenges and what is working and isn’t working as a parent, we provide you with a detailed plan of action. We also discuss expectations with parents for how and when change might occur based on our recommendations. As parents implement new techniques, we continue to closely monitor and track progress. As we track improvements, we build on what we have learned and provide additional resources to parents, empowering them to continue to integrate effective tools and evidence-based interventions. We believe that you can be an effective parent with the right tools and support and that positive change is possible from day one. Parent Coaching Groups & Workshops

Sage House offers parent support groups throughout the year. Topics range from the most common parenting issues, such as how to establish a healthy sleep routine (that actually works!) to talking to your child about a death or divorce. Workshops are presented by our clinical team member, Christina Hagemeier, MA, ATR, LPC. Christina specialize in working with children, teens, and families. She has extensive experience supporting parents of neurodivergent children, offering both individualize and group coaching programs. Workshops are generally held on weekdays in the evening. Depending on the topic of discussion, workshops range in duration from one to two hours and are offered at our convenient, Sage House office located in Reston, Virginia. Parent groups can be a helpful supplement to the Sage House Parental Coaching Program.
